About Us

Brandon and Elizabeth Heersink are preparing to serve at Hope Alive! in Uganda. Hope Alive! Is a relief ministry of WorldVenture focused on orphans and fragile family units. The project works closely with local churches in the slums of Kampala, Uganda’s capital, in the poor, rural area around the town of Masaka in southwestern Uganda, and in Gulu in Northern Uganda where civil war has greatly affected this area. Through educational assistance, evangelism and discipleship, micro-finance, and other means, Hope Alive! seeks to impact children and their families with the healing hope of Jesus, enabling them to thrive even in difficult circumstances and in turn impact others with God’s love and hope.

Brandon grew up in Iowa and came to faith in Christ as a young child. In high school he had the opportunity to serve on two short-term mission trips to Mexico and Nicaragua. It was during those trips that God placed in his heart the desire to serve the Lord overseas.

Elizabeth grew up in Utah and also came to faith in Christ as a young child. At age 11, Elizabeth felt God calling her into missions during her first trip overseas to Africa. Since then, she has had the opportunity to experience Christ through short-term mission trips to Rwanda and Puerto Rico.

Brandon and Elizabeth met while attending Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They were married in 2001 and had their first child, Patrick, in 2007. They have been privileged to lead two short-term trips to Mexico together, and they spent the summer of 2006 in Argentina living and working side by side with nationals and other missionaries. In October of 2008 they were appointed as missionaries to Argentina to work in Leadership training. In late 2010 began to feel that God was calling them to work with children. In 2011 God led them to Uganda to work with Hope Alive to impact the spiritual lives of the students in Hope Alive.

Brandon and Elizabeth are members of Bountiful Heights in Bountiful, Utah. Brandon and Elizabeth currently are serving in Children’s ministry.

The Heersink’s hope to use the gifts God has given them to play an important and necessary role in the spiritual formation of children in the Hope Alive! Program.
